THE ANNUAL SPORTS DAY 2014

(By – Mrityunjai Verma)

The month of December is earmarked for the occasion, as, at this time, the weather is congenial for a long span of games on the field. When this day is about to come, there appears to be a lot of activity in the entire school premises.

All the children, all the teachers and even all the other non-teaching staff seems to be busy with some work or the other. This is because everyone – yes, everyone is assigned a duty to see that the Day passes off well. Students look to the Sports day eagerly every year. This day gives them great pleasure.

As usual an interesting programme was made for the day. We got printed copies of the programme. Parents were invited too. The Physical Education Teachers were in-charge of the whole show. The sports began exactly at 10. A.M.

The Principal Ma’am made herself the Chief Martial and was at the Mic controlling each and every movement on the field. I was proudly sitting next to her as Assistant Chief Martial.

First of all, the athletes taking part in different events staged a march-past. The Chief Guest took the salute. Then the Head Boy and Head Girl took oath on behalf of the athletes to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship. Soon after the Chief Guest declared the Athletic Meet open and the sports began.

The first event on the programme was the PT Display by the senior students followed by PT display by juniors. The Yoga presentation won the heart of the audience. The Martial Art show presented by the students of the Braveheart Hostel stunned the parents and guests.

Races 100 meters, the 200 meters, the 400 meters, the 4×100 meters, the 4×200 meters, and the 800 meters were eagerly contested.  It was great fun to see the boys and girls running with all their strength. It was amazing the way the girls were running, they were no less than the boys.

Junior boys and girls also participated with great enthusiasm and it was a treat to watch them running. The 4×50 meters race for junior boys and girls was real fun. The basket race of the students of primary classes and the musical chairs of students of Nursery section were really cute.

After the races came the Field Events for stronger boys and girls- the long jump, the Javelin throw, the Discus throw and the shot-put. These events had everyone at the edge of their seats.

Then came the Tug of War for both boys and girls. This event saw the healthier lot losing and the thinner lot winning, boys and girls falling around with the rope in their hands. Even the house teachers were screaming and almost ready to pull the rope themselves.

The prize distribution followed the sports. Kishan Singh and Ankita were declared the best athletes of the meet. Gold medals for excellence in academics were also awarded. I was one of the recipients.  The Vivekanand House was declared the Champion House. It was a proud moment for them to carry away most of the trophies and medals. Everybody cheered them.

The Chief Guest appreciated the discipline maintained during the function.
